Casa Almadía
“The rare boutique that still feels like the barrio around it.”
Casa Almadía is what happens when a Cartagena family keeps their 1780s townhouse and opens just nine rooms of it. The courtyard plunge pool sits under a mango tree older than the republic; breakfast is arepas de huevo and fruit from Bazurto market; the rooftop catches the trade winds and the bell towers of the old city.
Rooms mix original tile floors with proper air-conditioning, rain showers and beds you will write home about. The family still lives on the top floor — which is exactly why the service feels like staying with well-connected friends: they will book your Rosario boat with the captain they trust and tell you which champeta night is worth losing sleep for.
